Boeing 737 family is the most successful program in the world for making passenger aircrafts. The first orders of Boeing 737-100 and 737-200 were placed back in 1965, and since there have been more than 6000 of them ordered.
There have been three generations of Boeing 737 family. The early series were Boeing 737-100/200, series Boeing 737 classic – 737-300/-400/-500 models, and series Boeing 737 NG (Next Generation), including -600/-700/-800/-900 models.
Early aircrafts, series Boeing 737 Original (in limited quantity Boeing 737-100 as well as well-known Boeing 737-200 and Boeing 737-200 Advanced) were produced from 1967 until 1985, and were designated for short-to-medium range flights. 1831 aircrafts of early series have been built since then.
In the early 1980s, the new engines CFM56 were put on aircrafts Boeing 737 with digital avionics that lead to appearance of Boeing series 737 Classic. The basic model of series Classic is aircraft Boeing 737-300 that was also made in shortened version with long-range flight Boeing 737-500, and version with extended body Boeing 737-400. For the period from 1984 to 2000, there were 1988 of aircrafts Boeing 737 Classic produced altogether.
Since 1997, the air companies are supplied with aircrafts series Boeing 737 NG (Next Generation), equipped with more efficient modern engines, new larger wing with the ability of installment of the aerodynamic winglet, as well as newly equipped cabins. The aircrafts of the new generation are faster, long-ranged and cost-effective compared to previous models. Boeing 737 NG produced at the present time together with the Airbus A320 family, are the main medium-range aircrafts around the world.
