Special Passengers

  • Can the airline refuse to carry a passenger who is on a stretcher, in a wheelchair, has limited mobility or is gravely ill?
  • Yes, this is possible when:

the passenger has not arranged their flight in advance with the airline and thus has not informed Somon Air staff about the need for special assistance on the flight.

it is not possible to provide the proper assistance for the whole route, because not all of the aircraft are suitably equipped.

the passenger has medical contraindications against flying.

flying would constitute a threat to the health or life of the passenger (established on the basis of a medical examination, etc.), or to the safety of other passengers, their property, the aircraft or crew.

the passenger has not adhered to the terms and conditions of carriage.

If you have any questions, please speak to our Call Centre on (+992) 44-640-40-40, (+992) 44-640-40-51.

  • I'm pregnant. Can I fly?
  • Yes, you can. You can buy your ticket online or at an Somon Air sales office. But please note that in certain cases the airline may refuse to take you.

During check-in at the airport you should fill in the special health declaration and give our staff a medical statement confirming the absence of contraindications to flying, for the precise departure date, signed by a doctor. If the precise departure date is not specified in the statement, the document is considered as valid for 7 days from the date of its issue.

Please don't forget that flying can negatively affect you or your baby's health. Consult a doctor before the trip and take into account their recommendations. Also, ensure that you have in your hand luggage everything necessary for a comfortable flight. Please come to the airport well in advance to go through all the formalities without rushing.

If you have any questions, please speak to our Call Centre on (+992) 44-640-40-40, (+992) 44-640-40-51.

  • I'm deaf - how can I arrange my flight?
  • Unfortunately deaf passengers are classed as requiring special assistance, and so cannot book online. Please visit an Somon Air sales office, where a ticket sales agent can take all the necessary details and request the booking. (In some cases the airline may refuse the flight.)

Consult a doctor before the trip and take into account any recommendations.

Please also make sure that you have everything you need for a hassle-free flight, and come to the airport well in advance to go through all the formalities without rushing.

If you have any questions, please speak to our Call Centre on (+992) 44-640-40-40, (+992) 44-640-40-51.

  • What are the strict medical contraindications to flying?
  • Strict contraindications to flying are: heart attack or cardiac surgery in the previous two weeks; unstable angina (angina pectoris); heart failure; uncontrollable heart arrhythmias (ventricular or supraventricular).

Diabetics should abstain from flying with absolute insulin deficiency, when the blood insulin level is sharply reduced and constant administration of insulin is required.

The airline can refuse to fly or to continue to fly any passenger, if flying would constitute a threat to the health or life of the passenger (established on the basis of a medical examination, etc.), or to the safety of other passengers, their property, the aircraft or crew.

If you have any questions, please speak to our Call Centre on (+992) 44-640-40-40, (+992) 44-640-40-51.

  • How can blind passengers arrange a flight?
  • Blind passengers are classed as requiring special assistance, and so cannot book online. Please visit an Somon Air sales office, where a ticket sales agent can take all the necessary details and request the booking. In some cases the airline can refuse the flight. Blind passengers may fly with another person, or with a guide dog, or under the care of airline staff. The latter requires a written application. If you travel with a guide dog, you need to have a certificate confirming its special training. Please keep its collar and muzzle on, and tie it to your chair by your feet in the cabin. Guide dogs travel free of charge in economy class cabins, and do not count towards your baggage weight allowance. Please consult a doctor before the trip and take into account any recommendations. Make sure that you have everything you need for a trouble-free flight, and come to the airport in advance to go through all the formalities without rushing. If you have any questions, please speak to our Call Centre on (+992) 44-640-40-40, (+992) 44-640-40-51.
  • How can I arrange a flight for a gravely ill or mobility-impaired passenger?
  • Unfortunately tickets for passengers requiring special assistance cannot be booked online. They can be arranged only at an Somon Air sales office, or via the telephone Contact Centre, where a ticket sales agent can take all the necessary details and make enquiries about the possibility of such a flight. Please note that in some cases the airline may refuse the flight.

When buying the ticket a medical statement signed by a doctor, giving permission for the flight, must be shown. The passenger's special requirements must be also be specified.

Wheelchair users may fly with an accompanying carer or under the care of the airline staff. The latter requires a written application.

Wheelchairs are carried in the baggage hold. Upon arrival they are either returned immediately to the passenger outside the aircraft, or in the baggage claim area. In the latter case the passenger is taken to the baggage claim area in a wheelchair provided by the airport.

A gravely ill person may fly only with an accompanying carer, and this requires the purchase of three seats at the economy class fare. Please make sure that you have all the necessary nursing things in your hand luggage. Medicines, a folding wheelchair, a stretcher or crutches are carried free of charge and do not count towards a passenger's baggage weight allowance.

Please do consult a doctor before the trip and take into account their recommendations for the flight. Come to the airport well in advance to go through all the formalities without rushing.

  • Can servicemen buy a ticket online by paying with military order?
  • No, but you can book and pay for a ticket with a military order at any Somon Air sales office.

  • Can my child fly alone?
  • Yes. Children under 13 travelling without an accompanying adult are classed as passengers requiring special assistance. You can buy a ticket for an unaccompanied child at any Somon Air sales office, including airport ticket offices. This requires the personal presence of a parent or a guardian.

Unaccompanied children are allowed to fly only on direct routes (without transfers) and only on Somon Air's own flights. The ticket price corresponds to an adult fare. The child has a separate seat in the cabin and has the standard baggage weight allowance.

  • Can passengers requiring special assistance buy a ticket online?
  • Unfortunately this is not currently possible. Unaccompanied children and disabled, elderly, sick or otherwise mobility-impaired passengers who require special assistance can book at an Somon Air sales office, or by phoning the Somon Air Call Centre on (+992) 44-640-40-40, (+992) 44-640-40-51.
