Passengers with special needs

Can every passenger with special needs buy a ticket online?

No, unfortunately not everyone. There are special booking and carriage for the transport of passengers with special needs. Therefore, it is currently not possible to issue tickets online for:

I’m expecting a baby soon. Can I buy a ticket online?

Yes, you can. Pregnant women are classed as passengers requiring special assistance, but may book tickets online. Nevertheless, please read the terms and conditions of carriage.

You must consult a doctor about possible contraindications before the flight and take into account their recommendations concerning the trip.

How can I arrange a flight for a gravely ill or mobility-impaired passenger?

Unfortunately tickets for passengers requiring special assistance cannot be booked online. They can be arranged only in Somon Air sales offices, the call center, where a ticket sales agent will take all necessary details. Please note that the airline may refuse the transport of the passenger.

Before purchasing a ticket, a medical statement signed by a physician giving permission for the flight, must be shown. The passenger’s special requirements must be also be specified.

Wheelchair users may travel with an accompanying carer or under the care of the airline staff. The latter requires a written application.

Wheelchairs are carried in the baggage hold. Upon arrival they are either returned immediately to the passenger outside the aircraft, or can be collected in the baggage claim area. In the latter case the passenger is taken to the baggage claim area in a wheelchair provided by the airport.

A gravely ill person may travel only with an accompanying carer, and this requires the purchase of three seats at the economy class fare. Please make sure that you have all the necessary nursing items in your hand baggage. Medicines, a folding wheelchair, a stretcher or crutches are carried free of charge and do not count towards a passenger’s baggage weight allowance.

What are strict medical contraindications for travelling?

Strict contraindications for travelling are and not limited to: heart attack or cardiac surgery in the previous two weeks; unstable angina (angina pectoris); heart failure; uncontrollable heart arrhythmias (ventricular or supraventricular).

Diabetics should abstain from flying with absolute insulin deficiency, when the blood insulin level is sharply reduced and constant administration of insulin is required.

The airline can refuse to carry or to continue carrying a passenger, if there may be a threat to the health or life of the passenger (established on the basis of a medical examination, etc.), or to the safety of other passengers, crew members and / or aircraft.

I’m deaf – how can I arrange my flight?

Unfortunately deaf passengers are classed as requiring special assistance, and so cannot book online. Please visit an Somon Air sales office, where a ticket sales agent can take all the necessary details and request the booking. (In some cases the airline may refuse the flight.)

Consult a doctor before the trip and take into account any recommendations.

I’m pregnant. Can I fly?

Yes, you can. You can buy your ticket online or at an Somon Air sales office. But please note that in certain cases the airline may refuse to take you.

During check-in at the airport you should fill in the special health declaration and give our staff a medical statement confirming the absence of contraindications to flying, for the precise departure date, signed by a doctor. If the precise departure date is not specified in the statement, the document is considered as valid for 7 days from the date of its issue.

Please don’t forget that flying can negatively affect you or your baby’s health. Consult a doctor before the trip and take into account their recommendations. Also, ensure that you have in your hand luggage everything necessary for a comfortable flight. Please come to the airport well in advance to go through all the formalities without rushing.

Can the airline refuse to carry a passenger who is on a stretcher, in a wheelchair, has limited mobility or is gravely ill?

Yes, this is possible when:

The passenger has not arranged their flight in advance with the airline and thus has not informed Somon Air staff about the need for special assistance on the flight.

It is not possible to provide the proper assistance for the whole route, because not all of the aircraft are suitably equipped.

The passenger has medical contraindications against flying.

Flying would constitute a threat to the health or life of the passenger (established on the basis of a medical examination, etc.), or to the safety of other passengers, their property, the aircraft or crew.

The passenger has not adhered to the terms and conditions of carriage.
